The old format and hosts was much more intelligent and useful. Consider going back to prior format.

Regular listening to Economist podcasts is like exercise, balanced diet etc. so many good reasons to do it but there will be a few people who don’t get it. There is no bias beyond it being sensible and non-doctrinaire. Listen every week!

Jon Fasman is not the person to do your remembrances. The segment on Diana Kennedy was too stilted; he inserts himself clumsily into the story.

not good

With customary 20/20 hindsight, I would have hoped that Anne McElvoy challenged senator Cruz on his immigration policy. He is proud of the fact that his father came to America with nothing but 100 dollars sewn into his pocket. I wonder what would be the fate of a person like his father arriving...Read full review »

I really enjoy the Economist podcasts but Checks and Balances, which focuses on the USA, is getting increasingly disconnected from the approach of the main “newspaper” and seems to have more in common with the Guardian opinion pages. The latest 3 part series on critical race theory was a case in...Read full review »

Total garbage. I subscribed to this expecting it to be very informative, and present factual information in a balanced manner. Instead it is so heavily partisan, very left-wing pro-Democrate biased. Very much have the knives out for the Republicans and very condescending to anyone who dares to...Read full review »

This is a pretty good podcast on interesting topics but can be a bit to biased at times.

CRT
Poorly reasoned, unbalanced and biased hiding under a veneer of supposed research and objectivity

The three part CRT piece on checks and balances was poor but most episodes are great

I find the discussions informative, both for the “Checks and Balances” episode and all the other episodes, but the lack of conservative voices in the discussions is very noticeable. For instance, in this episode there was no consideration of the economic impact of any of the proposed increases of...Read full review »

Informative, simple, and a wide array of shows keeps you interested and hooked on for the next episode! The best definition of good journalism or any other form of communication is to speak in the language of the listener, and the Economist does it brilliantly.

Whether you’re into finance or not — the best podcast out there.

I am a long time listener to all the Economist’s podcasts and I have always appreciated their non-partisan approach to news that is impossible to get in the US. Checks and Balances was particularly impressive due the ....uhmmmm....subject matter. But recently Checks and Balances has deviated from...Read full review »

This is the best podcast. One I look forward to each week. Checks and Balances provides wonderful insight in a thoroughly enjoyable presentation. The possibility of a TicTok explaining inflation expectations is enough to inspire me to my first ever podcast review.

A first I thought the biases were based on a European viewpoint, which is valuable. But after extended listening, I realize it’s biases are more similar to the DNC platform - very biased with a complete lack of objectivity.

I was hoping for an insightful discussion from a variety of perspectives which grapples with tough issues. If that is what you are also looking for, this seems to be the wrong place. I’d recommend the “Honestly” podcast.

I get most the audience and workers on the podcast probably range from progressive to center-left but it would be nice if they atleast tried to give good faith argumentation to the constitutional reasons why conservative justices made their decisions. All the analysis seems to be how does the...Read full review »

The Economist Explains asks Why does America allow abortions until fetal viability? As you know in Europe, there are restrictions many ranging from 12-20 weeks. Checks and Balance starts with this is shocking, end of all abortion coming to 50% of Americans. I tell my friends, articles in The...Read full review »

I enjoy most of the offerings on the Economist Podcast. I have been a fan of The Intelligence with Jason Palmer. Not a big fan of the addition of John Fasman.

Most of the analysis is great, but on guns, they seem to think that just passing anti-gun legislation will somehow stop gun violence. I'm sure they recognize that the war on drugs doesn't stop people from using drugs, and that making abortion illegal wouldn't stop people from getting...Read full review »

Too western biased for me, and I am in the west. Talks about the ‘world’ as if it’s only the US and EU. Russia has 1/2 the world propping up its economy and Ruble is the strongest currency in the world this year - CBS News. Cross check this one and don’t get blinded by western bias. It’s not...Read full review »

Warning: you need to fact check everything you hear on this podcast. There is such a heavy bias, most reports are full of lies and innuendo. Presents a hard left-leaning bias peddled to Americans with British accents combined with the occasional American socialist voice. Gets most issues WRONG,...Read full review »

The Economist still seems to believe that UK ‘is paying the price’ for leaving the EU. Why is this? Surely a liberal free market supporting paper would not think that EU policy formed by a largely unelected commission with protectionism at its heart was a positive force for good in the world. If...Read full review »
