But I hate hearing a bunch of cis straight people talk about how cautious we have to be with trans folks’ healthcare. Trans people need to be part of that conversation, and in the UK right now, they basically aren’t.

update, the music just keeps getting ever more bizarre, I’m becoming rather concerned about whoever it is who’s choice it is, I think they need help. Why two introductions? Why the truly awful ‘jackanory’ happy, happy, music? It makes it sound as if it’s aimed at ten year olds. Other than that I...Read full review »

“By virtue of being an immigrant you’re focused on survival rather than taking part in civic society” - paraphrasing from your last episode. Can we get someone who actually knows people who have moved here from other countries to talk about these issues pls? Lost it at “these types of people”.

Regular longtime listener. Always appreciate your analysis, though this episode betrayed the over reliance on “Westminster Bubble” armchair chat.

Of course the NS would have a plastic waste episode unironically sponsored by Coca Cola. I thought it must be sarcasm. But here we are. A joke, indeed. The soda industry is what popularized the idea of “recycling” so they could stop collecting and washing their glass bottles and instead put the...Read full review »

I simply repeat my comments about your partnership with Google: If the New Statesman wants to be a credible left-leaning publication (and podcast), they need to refrain from partnering with global top 10 corporates with global outsized influence. You look like a puppet with this kind of...Read full review »

The episode about the Left and Isreal was superb. Full of emotion, academic rigour and nuanced politics. It has stayed with me, so moving and so essential for me to build my understanding.

Always listen to this, and particularly enjoyed the recent Westminster Transformed episode about culture and wellbeing. Great to hear politics/current affairs get out of London and focus on the things which actually matter to our quality of life away from GDP numbers etc. more of that please!

I used to enjoy but now you get about 4-5 podcasts a week, which is too much and much of it isn’t good. I love Armando Iannucci, but I don’t want to hear what he has to say about politics week after week or some thinly veiled ad about electric vehicles. If you’re willing to wade through episode...Read full review »

Love the New Statesman podcast. A must every week.

I think it’s important to hear and read a variety of info & sources, to build a cross-bridge of opinion & understanding, hence why I subjected myself to these lovely London based college educated whiny leftie ladies who share their constant outrage, dislike and anger at popularism,...Read full review »

Is there anyway we can even pay to listen to this otherwise excellent podcast without the adverts?
Felixthefirts via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 11/03/23
I know the New Statesman is notoriously financially unstable but even with generous amounts of goodwill any listener will struggle to sit through what is almost half of an episode's runtime being filled by adverts. It's salt in the wound that many of these adverts are for the mega...Read full review »

Used to listen to every NS pod….it’s not my politics, but we all need critical balance & NS was one of best for that But since Marr I have given up….tried again on this one & that’s me done 😢 He is sadly just a pure activist…no analysis or added value …..should be a Labour MP not a...Read full review »

Enjoyed the discussion 11th sept 2023, but one comment. You didn’t actually discuss wealth taxes, capital gains can easily be avoided because rich people can choose when to realize gains or simply delay if needed. Wealth tax = % annual tax paid on net assets eg (made up) tax free allowance 1m,...Read full review »

Unwavering bootlicking and hypocritical posturing in absolute support of The Labour Right. The mental gymnastics on show is of an Olympian standard. No different to hideous right-wing newspapers, only batting for a blue side in their red away strip.

Five minutes of ads on a ten minute podcast. Absurd.

Does feel like just a branch of the BBC where they’re still OK with polished accents. Not quite the same level of quality as the Spectator podcast, but they well be my bias. Certainly not in the same league as the Economist podcasts.

Really clear concise and illuminating review of the new leader and choices facing SNP. Learnt a lot from the Scotland Editor. Excellent episode thank you 👍

When you had one of the few pod cast theme tunes which didn’t sound like it had been knocked up in 5 minutes by a kid with a kazoo, why after Stephen has left of all times, replace it with something that sounds like it ought to be the backing track to a Pixar movie about a sloth, a hippo and a...Read full review »

Oh, I do miss Stephen Bush: despite his serial sentence un-finishing. I don’t miss the old music, and the new sound is perfect. In Stephen’s absence the podcast has steadily grown back into itself, largely by drawing on a wider range of contributors (and types of contributors), and if anything,...Read full review »

Centrist, sensible, thoughtful. Not my politics but a valuable insight into how Westminster works. And thank you so much for changing the music, that haunted my dreams!

Andrew Marr appears to be able to tap into a vast array of contacts in Whitehall - then apply the wisdom of seeing ‘the bigger picture.’ A professional podcast.

Pretty awful, even by their usual standards - quite a lot of time devoted to their hotel accommodation and then lengthy mansplaining from Stephen Bush - with accompaniment of appreciative / sycophantic laughter from the female members of the panel.at his turn of phrase Unfortunately the music is...Read full review »

I love the NS podcast, it’s become something I look forward to. There’s plenty of variety, the Armando/Anoosh episodes have been especially good, and it’s great to listen to on my bike ride into work. But… was that really a Macdonalds ad I just heard? Really?

Don’t subscribe to the magazine. There is no easy way to cancel and they don’t respond to cancellation emails. The best I have got is a marketing email offering half price with no response from my subsequent insistence they cancel the membership.

Delighted Will has become part of the podcast team. The New Statesman business analysis is way better than the rest.

Even since Bush left, it’s a great listen. But it has the most copious, and the most repulsive, advertising I have heard on a podcast. I would happily give five stars if it were a little more selective.

Duncan Weldon’s explanation of why we’re in the current financial crisis, its historical context and what we can (or can’t) do about it was the most coherent and user-friendly I’ve heard or read. He was helped by a great interviewer. PS. I hope the 3-way conversation format has gone. They’re...Read full review »

I don’t leave reviews often but I really like this podcast. I like the centre-left positioning that still critiques Labour and doesn’t just bash the Conservatives for everything they do. I like the collegiate tone and the way presenters challenge each other but do so gently. And I like the voices.
