Simplistic and skin deep
Levine's cause is pretty clear in this podcast, show that Linda Taylor was not indicative of the stereotypes used by Reagan and others in portraying welfare recipients. This he does fairly well. However he rarely goes beneath the surface in his analysis, namely how common or easy was fraud? The rest of the podcast is an effete and highminded take on Linda Taylor that ends up as mostly an apology. Given this podcast is mostly an advertisement for the eponymous book, the first 2 episodes are probably worth a listen in lieu of a trip to the library/book store. Beyond that, there's 3 episodes of Levine hand wringing about casting judgment on a woman he admits is a fraudster, kidnapper and maybe even murderer. 3 stars for the topic, 1 star for the host.Read full review »

I love Josh Levin’s work and this is no exception. Love the interviews, the pace and the narration.
