White Southerner Awakens a Little More
I just finished listening to the first podcast. It was one of the most eye-opening experiences I may ever have had regarding the history of slavery and civil rights in this country. For years though I understood the wrong slavery was, I have maintained A certain pride in the south that was passed down to me. A number of years ago I removed the rebel battle flag from my childhood charm bracelet. Since that act, I have continued to learn and develop in my identity as a modern white southerner whose ancestors once owned slaves. Thanks for sharing with us things about the history of slavery in the civil rights movement that aren’t normally taught in the textbooks.

Thank you for this podcast. Just listened to the first episode, and I can’t wait for next week. Riveting storytelling — you are saying things that need to be heard right now. I am a teacher and will be recommending to our social studies department. Thank you, again!

Listen to hear the history we were never taught about in school. Beautiful and captivating narration. This should be required listening for everyone. Thank you NYT for finally allowing this story to be told.
