beyond a post-mortem analysis of devastating events
Before listening to this podcast, i knew so very little of the Rwandan Genocide. I knew a lot of people died; but That’s about it. After listening to this podcast, in which the host “dives into what is behind the now ubiquitous phrase, Rwandan Genocide”, I understand that the lead up to the genocide began with decades of greed and betrayal of a non-tribunal country, barely the size of the state of Vermont, with a corrupt president, nicknamed “The invincible”, paying tribute to the unwithering massacres he carried out. Mr. Brown provides a full-picture of the devastating events that occurred between April 7 1994-July 15 1994, even for those of us who really know close to nothing about them. Not only is this worth the listen for the fascination of world history, but for the importance of remembering lives lost in a place that receives far less than deserved attention and aid. Imagine living so consistently with the “threat of violence” that you come to see it as normal? Greg describes what that was like for the Tutsi. Although i could go on about this podcast for much longer, i could not possibly depict it nearly so accurately as does Greg Brown. I have yet to listen to part 2 but cannot wait to do so, as you should try with part 1 and the latter. Congratulations to the host of this podcast, as i am but a 22 year old woman who could care far less about history, but now simply wants to watch endless videos about the Rwandan Genocide rather than endless episodes of The Office.
