“My dad (who passed this year a few weeks after the Super Bowl) was a fan as soon as he moved west with the Air Force in the 1950’s. He taught me well. My earliest memory is a game at Kesar Stadium and after the game we waited at the locker room exit. I got my pennant signed by John Brodie and Gene Washington! In high school I suffered through the demoralizing playoff losses to the Cowboys but soon along came Bill Walsh and I was a believer from the beginning. In 1980 we we were at the Niner/Saints game, and trailed the Saints by 28 points at half time but Montana took over and the Niners beat the Saints 38 - 35, still a regular season comeback record. My dad went to four Super Bowls and I went to three of them with him. He lived in Sacramento all his adult life (I moved around the US) and chartered busses to the game for years. Some years he had five busses full of season ticket holders who would meet at the Elk’s Lodge for Bloody Marys and travel together to the games. We both wished desperately for a sixth ring last season and almost had it. But the Niners have delivered over the years and we’re both thankful.”
