“On Christmas 1988, in Buffalo, my father bought starting lineup figures for my brothers and I. One got Jim Kelly. One got Marino. I got Montana. One month later, just before my 6th birthday, Super Bowl XXIII, my Dad said I could sit on the big comfy couch and root for Cincy or sit on a chair by myself and root for SF. My brother pointed out SF had the Montana guy that I had the figure of. I chose SF. Joe Montana became my idol a few hours later. Then Steve Young, Jerry Rice, etc. Been a 49ers fan every second of my life since then. Faithful then. Faithful now.”
