On the plane with Kell Brook in Los Angeles 2014
Your excellent pod and interview with Brook reminded me of why I first became interested in boxing. I’d been in California in the summer of 2014 and was flying back to London from LA. In front of me in the check in queue were a group in matching black and gold tracksuit’s, which at the time I thought a touch naff and assumed a staff party. One of the group opened conversation with me, Kells father in law as it turned out. I’d never heard of Brook nor knew much about boxing. After some to and fro a small, muscular man in huge sunglasses with a lisping twang turned, offered his hand and introduced himself as Kell. “He’s just become world champion” said his father in law. We shared the flight home, I went and googled him, watched the highlights of the fight and have never looked back. Living in America now, where commentary and punditry is little more than cheerleading or noise, the pod is the highlight of my audio week and quite exceptional.
