“The main criteria for a podcast for me is “is it entertaining enough to pass the time on my lengthy morning and afternoon commute?”. In that regard, Happy Hour is a success. The podcast is interesting enough to keep me listening, especially when they have a member of the website with some actual inside news or rumors that aren’t on their website.
That said, there’s room for improvement, most noticeably with the technical knowledge of the various people on the podcast. For example, it’s frustrating when no one on the podcast knows why (as of the time I’m writing this) there are no Broadwell Intel chips available for the 2015 Macbook Pro refresh. Hint: Apple isn’t “skipping Broadwell”. The Broadwell processors suitable for laptops like the Pro and desktops like the iMac simply aren’t out as of yet. Or when they posit that Apple is using an AMD GPU because it might be more power efficient, showing a complete lack of knowledge about NVIDIA’s Maxwell architecture and it’s impressive energy efficiency.
I’m not expecting Anandtech-level analysis, but come on guys! You can’t intelligently discuss Apple without at least knowing a little more about the components that go into their products!”
