Spoiled by ill-informed anti-vegan environmental arguments
This thoughtful podcast is spoiled by the ill-informed anti-vegan environmental arguments that Manda Scott slips in. These fly in the face of academic research such as that by Poore, Nemecek, Xu, Springmann, Hayek, Harwatt, Smith and others. Scott clings on to the carnist mindset that conveniently and falsely advocates grazing by ruminant herbivores, those that happen to be species exploited for food, as being better for the environment than a plant-based food system. She clearly isn’t aware of (or doesn’t accept) the research revealing that an area equivalent to another Lake District National Park could be liberated for nature if the population of Edinburgh adopted plant-based diets. If the world population went plant-based, an area equivalent to the entire African continent could be devoted to nature. An example: in the otherwise splendid episode on 24 May 2023, Scott puts in a plug at 49m25s for the Pasture-fed Livestock (sic) Association and then misrepresents George Monbiot as a stalking horse for an extremely inaccurate picture of a plant-fed world needing a lot more artificial fertiliser and associated environmental impacts. The opposite is true. Scott should check out the Stockfree Farming Scottish grass roots organisation instead of championing unsustainable & cruel animal agriculture.

Pretty much unfailingly has something or someone that inspires me to think deeper, commit to things bigger than myself or just feel like I’m not the only one railing against the insanities of today. It gives me hope. Thanks.
