Homophobic Hostess
I was excited to subscribe to this podcast because the reviews are great. However, after I listened to the first ten minutes of the Cultural Savior episode, I unsubscribed immediately after hearing the hostess describe the Black Lightning tv show as having “homosexuality shoved down our throats”. Queer Black people do exist. They existed prior to Africa’s colonization, and queer people exist within every race, ethnicity, and culture in the world and have since its very beginning. Morality aside, it is erasure to expect people who live and contribute to our society to NEVER want to see themselves reflected in media. In the same way a TV world with only white faces leaves out the majority of Black and brown peoples’ lives experiences. You (the hostess) mentioned how excited you were to see a feminine yet strong Black woman on screen. Likewise, queer people deserve to see themselves reflected on screen as well. Erasure of ANY kind of people is at best, inaccurate, and at worst, demeaning.
