Danielle Allen, UPS Foundation Professor in the School of Social Science at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, New Jersey, presents a lecture on freedom and education on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the AKArama Foundation. In her lecture, Professor Allen discusses the concepts of freedom and equality in relation to the Declaration of Independence and stresses the need for politicians and citizens to strive toward achieving a balance between the two in current political affairs. Professor Allen previously served as Dean of the Humanities at the University of Chicago and founder of the Civic Knowledge Project. The event was sponsored by the AKArama Foundation and the University of Chicago Civic Knowledge Project. The AKArama Foundation is a philanthropic arm of the Theta Omega Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and sponsors many service projects, programs, and events within the surrounding community. The Civic Knowledge Project at the University of Chicago provides educational and humanities programming in collaboration with local organizations in order to strengthen community relations and overcome the social, economic, and racial divisions among the various knowledge communities on the South Side of Chicago.
