Monocole is losing it's potential
The first magazine I bought must have been a year into the development of their media. At which point it seemed to be a very critical look at the world, with the assistance of a variety of experts with some sort of academic background, then the variety of information that was provided seemed further interesting and even valid to those who are or wish to percieve themselves as a person with a similar type of interlect. However many of the articles which you would expect to be illuminating lack a certain insight, yet remain convincing being proposals due to the backgound of the writers/journalists. It does provide a unique array of information aswell as plenty of supposed just theory which is what was so intriging. I have noticed during the past months especially in the new year Monocle has a very diverse commercial plan, you can even buy a hand bag that promotes the magazine, and other stuff from their merchandise shop in London. I even saw a guy on the tube who drapped himself in this attire of monocle intellects. All very well, but this type of promotion contradicts it's overiding purpose, of originaility in articles of high standing, and the dimise of it's cool underground image. Fine it is a fashion they can expand there readership but then the intriguing quality of articles will have to change. At the moment it is just plain hypocritical, and it just provides a formula for the pretentious. I suppose there is no reason that this could follow to provide a overall good effect and get people talking about more relevant issues in the world besides what is generally dictated to the public. Monocle magazine was originally published in Seattle but then went under. This is probably the result of it's purchase.

Monocle is fresh, forthright and not afraid to present a...Read full review »
