How Social Media Has Revolutionized Sports & Politics -- Amir Zonozi (Co-Founder & President, Zoomph)
Listen now
Description
Amir Zonozi is the Co-Founder & President of Zoomph, an audience intelligence and sponsorship measurement tool for sports teams, leagues, and agencies. Amir started his career in social media strategy and management before taking the entrepreneurial leap and launching Zoomph in 2014. In this episode, we examine how social media has fundamentally changed sports and politics. Perhaps the most striking example from the sports world is the popularity of individual athletes over teams. Not only have fantasy sports emphasized individual over team performance, but social media has made all-star athletes more accessible to fans than ever before. And foreign viewers, who don’t share the team’s geographic affiliation, are more likely to care about their favorite star players. Major league athletes have become online influencers in their own right; for example, Juju Smith-Schuster augments his performance on the field with gaming streams on Twitch, lifestyle content on Instagram, and his own shoe line with Adidas. The same phenomenon can be observed in politics. Social platforms like Twitter and Facebook have made politicians more accessible and accountable to their constituents. Donald Trump and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have become canonical examples of politicians who take to social media to engage directly with their supporters. And now that the genie is out of the bottle, the political arena – much like the world of sports – is forever changed by social media. Host: James Creech LEAVE US A REVIEW!
