“TL;DR: best podcast everrrrrrrr 😆
So I’ll just start by saying I’m not a podcast listener, if I have time to listen to something I’m going to listen to music. But back in 2018 I had some things going on (too much to get into here) and needed something I could really focus on while driving. The first podcast I found was called “The Absolute Worst Podcast” and I gave it a try. Really, it was the big sparkly design in contrast to the name that made me give it a try. I listened for about 6 months and it got me through some hard times. Then, in Jan 2019 they announced they were done. DEVASTATED. No idea how I was going to manage to drive to work and home. We had a fan group on FB, and one of the members basically said, hey, I know the bodies aren’t even cold yet 😫😆 BUT we have another group for a different podcast if you wanna join and give that pod a listen. I was hesitant because really, listening to (then, 3) women talk isn’t normally my cup of tea, I thought AWP was just the exception. But I didn’t know what else to do, I NEEDED a podcast to listen to. I was immediately hooked. At that time they were almost 3 years in, I listened to a few current episodes and then started at the beginning. Over the years the pod (and the hosts) have went through many changes, from leaving the radio show that the pod was affiliated with and thinking they were going to lose it all, to one of the hosts leaving. Dealing with eating disorders and anxiety, the pandemic, lockdown, Bethany meeting her life partner and Kathleen losing her dad to COVID. B&K are always raw, real, honest and hilarious; talking about things both personal and not personal. During their time on the air the US has had 2 major, controversial presidential elections, a lockdown, Roe v Wade overturned, racial unrest, mass shootings, and the pod (and the FB fan group) have been a place to listen, talk, and heal. They really do feel like your 2 best friends, I 100% recommend giving the show a listen if you haven’t yet! They both also have spin off shows now: Bethany does “The Check-In” with Dennis, about working and living with your significant other; Kathleen has “Kathleen Can Do It,” a show with her other friend named Kathleen about DIY home design and improvement. I love both of those as well, and together the 3 podcasts are still the only ones I listen to.”
