Key moments include Egyptian blue, Ultramarine and YINmn blue. Through a scientific breakthrough in the early 19th century, cobalt blue would become the steadfast true blue pigment missing on the painter’s palette, leading artists like Eugene Delacroix, Edouard Manet, Vincent Van Gogh and Richard Diebenkorn to use cobalt in their varied and expressive visions. And lastly, we also dig into our associations with COBALT BLUE - which ranged from ocean hues, expansive skies, otherworldliness, happiness or even fresh crispness - all through data compiled by the Art Slice Pantrémon from clinical participants.
