Little podcast, big thoughts
Great podcast! I may be a little biased because the host and I share a crazy high number of the same astrological placements (Sun and Mercury in Gemini in the 8th house, Venus in Cancer in the 9th house, a stellium in Virgo in the 11th house, and a Libra ascendant)! I’m not new to astrology, but I enjoy hearing new perspectives and getting a quick refresher, even on basic concepts. Hearing the information in another person’s voice and choice of words gets my own creative juices flowing, giving me a richer, more dynamic picture of the world of astrology. Theresa Reed has a wonderful way of getting me excited to think about familiar concepts in new ways. And there are definitely episodes where I learn something that is brand new to me as well. It takes a very knowledgeable teacher to be able to explain the basics of a complicated subject. Theresa Reed really demonstrates her mastery of the subject, while also being continuously curious and open to new views. Love it!! P.S. Thank you so much for introducing me to the work of Colin Bedell. Queer erasure in astrology has long bothered me. I spend a lot of time thinking about what placements and aspects mean in a given cultural and social context - not what they mean for a specific gender, sexuality, or relationship configuration, all of which are heavily influenced or defined by social and cultural constructs of a given time period. To put it in perspective: Can you imagine if astrologers talked about race like they talk about gender and relationships! Didn’t think so. It’s more important to think about the intersection of placements & aspects and the psyche in relation to how they express themselves in our social environments (family, work, leisure, religious life, etc.) in the context of what is considered the norm for our culture during the time period in which we exist. We need to also take into account norms that are changing, for better or worse, on local and global levels. Easy enough, right! 😉 Simply put, astrological knowledge and interpretation is not static, because humans, individually and as groups over long periods of time, are not static. (Spoken like a highly Mercurial person with a strong 11th house, I know. 😂) I’m beyond thrilled that Colin is such a tremendous force for change in this arena. Thank you for having him on, Theresa. And thank you for being an ally to those of us that have been marginalized by astrology for so long. Keep fighting the good fight!
