“Dear Patrick Lencioni. I am a big fan of your work and I used to really love this podcast.
To me a lot of the concepts in your work is about activating team members, not always waiting for leaders to step in and about minimising the ego of the leader for the bigger cause. But then…
I listened to the episode on leaderlessness and I got so disappointed! In this episode all you and the team do is to talk condescendingly about “this guy” (whose name is Jos de Blok - at least mention this! Otherwise you are not taking your own show seriously!) and supporting each other in finding arguments to why “this guy” was completely out of line. I found it full of bias and assumptions and stripped of curiosity and openness. At some point you even assume that the company receives public funding - which is actually not the case. So before you dedicate an entire episode to talking bad about someone who can’t even defend themselves, at least do your research! I was actually looking forward to an episode where you would share your view on what it is and isn’t, how this could work or what would need to be in place in order for this to work (like you have done with other themes such as accountability, empowerment etc.)
So, I would welcome a new episode where you look for more cases of companies who practice leaderlessness (they are out there) and ask with curiosity (as Cody actually tries to suggest at one point) what are the compelling reasons or situation in which leaderlessness would actually make sense? and how do we define leaderslessness making a distinction between the leader and leadership.
I think you need to hear this feedback because up until now, I have been a loyal listener who really like your podcast :-(”
