Description
Atheists Talk cable program by Minnesota Atheists. "Social Technologies: Part 1" recorded 2/6/2014 In part one of our interview with Jordan Peacock, we talk about science and religion as human technologies, broadly considered. Religion is discussed as a potentially adaptive response to past ecological conditions. The atheist/theist divide is contrasted with creating groups around shared values, and the separate tension between those who make meaning versus those who "unmake" it. In part two of our interview with Jordan Peacock, we take a high-level tour through modern philosophies of metaphysics and ontology (the study of what exists). The relationship between "realisms" and "materialisms" is discussed, and the structural realism of Ladyman/Ross and the assemblage theory of DeLanda are explained in brief. Minnesota Atheists practices positive, inclusive, active, friendly neighborhood atheism in order to: - Provide a community for atheists - Educate the public about atheism - Promote separation of state and church http://www.mnatheists.org/
