#70 Akani Simbine [EN] - "Growth comes from struggle"
Listen now
Description
Akani Simbine is the South African record holder in the 100m (9.84) and one of the most consistent sprinters of the last few years, placing in the top 5 in the 100m in every single major champ from Rio 2016 to Eugene 2022. Akani still hasn’t won any individual medal though. In this episode, Akani tells us about what he learnt from consistently placing fourth or fifth, about the moment he almost gave up, about his false start at the 2023 World Championships in Budapest and also about his relationship with his coach (the only coach he’s ever had). Akani and I recorded this episode in late May when we both were in Oslo for the Diamond League meet. You’re listening to the original interview in English but the interview is also available dubbed in French for those of you who understand French better than English. This interview is one my favorite interviews. I hope you enjoy it!
