#77 Kara Goucher [EN] - "I wanted to tell my side of the story"
Listen now
Description
My guest this week is two-time Olympian Kara Goucher. Kara represented the USA at the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the 5000m and the 10000m, and at the 2012 London Olympics in the marathon. Kara also won a silver medal in the 10000m at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka. She finished third that day in Osaka but her medal was eventually upgraded to silver after another athlete tested positive for doping. In this episode, Kara tells us why she decided to blow the whistle on her former coach Alberto Salazar and the abuses at the Oregon Project, and why she joined forces with Allyson Felix and Alysia Montaño to criticize Nike’s contract reductions for pregnant athletes and new moms, which paid off as Nike eventually removed these reductions. Kara and I also talked about her job as a track and field analyst for NBC Sports, and about her life with dystonia, a neurological disorder that’s impacted her running. Kara and I recorded this episode a year ago. Sorry it took me so long to release the episode but I also had to translate it to French and it’s always a lot of work. 😉 You’re listening to the original interview in English but the interview is also available dubbed in French for those of you who understand French better than English. ⚠️ One last thing: this episode contains subject matter that is not suitable for children. 📖 Get Kara's book: The Longest Race: Inside the Secret World of Abuse, Doping, and Deception on Nike's Elite Running Team 🎧 Listen to episode 30 with Perdita Felicien: #30 Perdita Felicien [EN] - "You have to normalize failure" Follow Kara Goucher: Facebook X Instagram Threads Follow ATHLÈTES MONDIAUX:  X Instagram  Facebook  YouTube  TikTok Threads Website  👉 Support the podcast 👈 I'll be back soon with another episode!   Hébergé par Ausha.
