“I greatly enjoy the variety, depth, and detail of all things Aerospace covered by Check 6. However, Pentagon Editor Lee Hudson speaks with such severe up-talking and vocal fry it makes my teeth hurt.
I suspect she is unaware of how grating her voice is, and it could be corrected with a little effort. I am very interested in what she has to say, but the way she says it feels like a fork on a chalkboard.
I have read that up-talk is a means of softening tone and seeming inclusive, but when conveying technical information, it make the speaker seem unsure, and so what they say becomes unreliable, which is counter-productive for a journalist.”
