As a young teacher in South Africa, she joined the struggle to end apartheid and reshape her country, rising to Deputy President under Nelson Mandela. She used her positions to bring the advantages of a growing economy to the poor. She uses her current role to fight for gender equality through the Generation Equality Forum.
