“I just want to start off and say I really enjoy your podcast! I love how you not only recap the show but dig deeper and connect what’s happening in the show to what’s happening in our world. However, I disagreed with the discussion surrounding Matt and Michelle’s convo around BLM and George Floyd compared to Tayshia and Ivan’s conversation. I’m a Black woman and I don’t speak for all of us but you have to understand that last summer for Black people was extremely traumatic and we’re still processing through all that happened today. On top of that, we were bombarded by messages from white and non-Black friends either sharing their guilt and grief or asking us to share/explain our trauma. It was (and still is) tiring. Now imagine having to share that on national tv and knowing in the back of your head that it’ll be seen by a mainly white audience. Ivan had his way of wanting to talk about it and Michelle had hers and I think neither is wrong. It’s so important to remember that black people are not a monolith, we process through and express our racial trauma differently. And so I don’t think it’s up to people outside of the Black community to say how we should discuss our experiences. It doesn’t mean you can’t share your thoughts on the discussion, I just think this is a different perspective to consider. I respect your opinions and appreciate you for even just bringing more awareness to BLM. I look forward to more episodes!”
