Ownership and empathy for imperfection
I first learned about Katie Duke when she was interviewed on another podcast, and was so floored to find a nurse who is obviously hardworking and skilled at what she does, but who keeps it real and puts things out there that so many would keep swept under a rug because of shame and pain associated with them. People who find themselves in bad situations find themselves faced with judgment and criticism (this can be especially true in the nursing profession), when what they need most is empathy and the understanding that mistakes are part of what makes us human. Katie (with equally insightful contributions from her producers on the podcast) gives us the reminder that bad decisions and mistakes don’t make you a bad person, and I’m so grateful this podcast exists as a place where that notion can be supported. I see in other reviews that people take issue with Katie’s cursing and colorful language, but frankly, I find it endearing and think it adds to the whole “come as you are” vibe of the podcast and the messages Katie is putting out there. Keep keeping on, girl, and thank you. I raise a Mickey D’s cheeseburger to what you stand for and will keep tuning in every Tuesday for new content.

I’m beyond impressed with this podcasts ability to speak so universally to the issues that so many of...Read full review »
