“We’ve been listening to the Better than Fiction Bible podcast since almost the beginning. Jason and I work together so each episode is always a primer for conversation. We were raised in different denominational traditions, yet (it’s biblical focus) is one of the cool aspects of this podcast. I know the denominational tradition the host are connected with but this podcast doesn’t revolve around that tradition. The hosts do a great job of focusing on the biblical narrative and stories within that narrative. They have been very helpful in showing the continuity (as opposed to the randomness) of this GRAND STORY. The pace is perfect, never hurried. Language is key, they bring to life the richness of the ancient words adding a depth of meaning. They have fun and that makes listening enjoyable. They interject modern word pictures from movies, books and such which help us “moderns” framework what the ancient readers were thinking. Who would have ever believed Yertle the Turtle was to be found in such an ancient text. They are making the Old Testament relevant and showing how the New Testaments feeds off the OT. The podcast really is worth your time-it will cause you to THINK, PONDER and REFLECT for yourself the truths of the inspired record of GOD’S revelation.
There is another aspect of this podcast we need to highlight, that is Gandalf. We know he’s the technical guy which brings it all together but he’s something more. We see Gandalf as representing “us” in the audience. Like us without all the formal schooling and language understanding, yet since the beginning we have listened as Gandalf has begun to connect the dots that Matt and Nathan are helping us all to see. So every time Gandalf is asked to respond-we in the audience are likewise trying to respond and when he gets a “ding ding ding” we feel like it’s our “ding ding ding” also (if we answered similar). That’s a neat connection point in this podcast.
Just a couple guys up here in Missouri enjoying a weekly dose of biblical insight!!”
