I watched the first season of Alice in Borderland on Netflix, and no one I know has watched it. As the serious was about video games, involved a lot of violence (which I hate) and was full of young people nothing like me, I nevertheless found the show intriguing. After watching the season 1 finale, I googled reviews, and accidentally found this podcast.
I’ve listened to all of the BingeworthyTV podcast episodes for season 1.
What I liked - they really watched it, I like the set up of some who know where it goes and some who don’t, they really know their genres, they are really clearly spoken and easy to understand, they never run out of opinions and things to say, and what they say is pretty interesting, and was fun to listen to, given I have no one else to talk to about this show.
What was “on the fence” - well they’re a bunch of heterosexual men - no gays or women - and so they engage in “locker room talk” in relation to who is “hot”. It’s an insight!!! Of course, they then miss the “swimsuit rule” inconsistency that men can easily hide a gun in their baggy shorts, but the women’s costumes make them eye candy - presumably to attract just these kind of guys as the audience. I forgive them and was kind of interested in their views, whilst also regarding their revelations as being somewhat unreconstructed.
Their silly games - snog marry avoid - which they call bang marry kill. But they give them some structure to make more comments.
Overall, you know, it’s good to open your mind and I found it super interesting listening to this bunch of guys chatting about this Japanese show. Well done guys!”
