Description
Leading Off Bird’s Eye View returns after its three-week hiatus. Where have we been, you ask? Well, we’ve had scheduling issues, and we’ve been at the mercy of mother nature. When the power went out during a storm, we realized even the weather was against us. But we’re back, and we’re better than never. Drink of the Week Join us for the Drink of the Week, and let us know how you’re consoling yourself as you watch the O’s. Will have to wait.— Stephen Adams ⚾️ 🌈 (@StephenPAdams) July 27, 2023 Around the Bases First Base: Holy crap this is fun! The Orioles are playing good baseball, and are in first place in the AL East. A couple of weeks ago, we (on this very podcast) had written off being able to catch the Rays, and thought that first place was a bridge too far. But now, the O’s sit alone at the top of the best division in baseball, with the AL’s best record. That is a real sentence that I wrote with no sense of irony. The Orioles are playing great (but imperfect) baseball, and if you can’t enjoy this, you’re broken as a fan. Second Base: …but not everything is perfect. The O’s are fun, but they are not without their flaws. We discuss holes in the bullpen, holes in the rotation, and holes in people’s groins. OK, that could have been phrased better. We also take a Short Stop before heading the Third Base to discuss the Next Next Wave and not discussing the 2023 Draft. Third Base: What do the Orioles need at the trade deadline? We’ll give you a hint: it rhymes with “itching.” The Orioles need middle relief help. The real question is what they’re willing to do in order to get it. Is it possible that they’d make a move for a back-end starter? Probably not, but they’ll kick most tires. Home Plate: The Lease We Could Do WHY IS THE LEASE SITUATION NOT RESOLVED YET?! This is beyond absurd at this point. Scott makes excellent, well reasoned points, and Jake pouts.
