I started this show and did not continue after a few episodes. I went and found another one. I’m fine if people disagree with others but the way they so haphazardly discarded women with birth plans it just did not come across as showing appropriate respect. Basically yeah, I just was not vibing...Read full review »

How can a midwife be promoting these non-evidence based approaches to parenting a newborn??? Absolutely baffles me!!

This is only useful for white, middle class, office workers!

Have used this episode as gospel for both of my kids at different times (in desperation) and Cath has the most wonderful reassuring advice. Has been absolutely priceless to me and everyone I’ve ever shared it with. I just jumped on to search for it to send to another friend and thought I would...Read full review »

Started listening to the “new Dad” string of podcasts from Birth, Baby and Beyond with Chris Taylor and had to stop 10 minutes in. Most unrelatable podcast I have heard about pregnancy/birth yet. If you represent the 1% of Australia as the guests on this podcast like Chris Taylor and Trent...Read full review »

Midwife Cath’s sleep advice is as old as she is AKA neglect. Western society’s obsession with independence in babies is damaging. Studies show the increased cortisol levels in babies with any sort of (as Cath recommends) cry it out or controlled crying (she calls it passive settling… it’s called...Read full review »

I was right to be put off by the first episode. Some of the information in this podcast is great, but other parts (especially breastfeeding information) is just all wrong! Love what the podcast is trying to do, but I just think that people should be careful what they claim to be an expert about.

This was absolutely incredible to have throughout my pregnancy. It turned from an anxious mess to a well prepared calm and ready to take on anything pregnancy. I listened to serious 1-3 religiously and read the book. Having lost my mum myself this felt like all the advice I needed and a warm hug....Read full review »

Don’t bother people. It’s obsolete, degrading and false information. Grasping at straws if they have to ask friends of friends for “storyline’s & gossip” what a toxic gang of women. Ew

This podcast is full of drivel. Why am I not surprised when I learn it’s Midwife Cath who isn’t even allowed to practice as a midwife due to sprouting misinformation.

If you want to listen to a few Toffs scoffing at the idea that women should be able to have a say in how they want to birth their child, then this is for you. In fact, if you want to hear people talking over each other and mocking pregnant women’s choices, there probably isn’t a better...Read full review »

I can’t express enough how genuine this advice is … your experience in early childhood is precise… no nonsense and fancy labels ,products.. Midwife Cath offers very little evidence based advice on this podcast, essentially setting vulnerable first time parents or parents struggling with the demands of a newborn up for failure. Constantly contradicts herself and belittles the experience of motherhood. For the novice parent this advice...Read full review »

This is horrific, listening to the episiotomy episode doesn’t provide any helpful information or clarity around what it is, when it’s used, risks/benefits etc!! Cath, why bother getting guests on if you talk over them and contradict them?

Sounds like midwife Cath has sold her soul to the industrial birth beast. From active birth singing Enya in the 80’s to now, telling women that episiotomies are just a part of birth and to be good little girls and listen to their doctors 🤮 it’s honestly disgusting and a really poignant example of...Read full review »

As a new mum I love this podcast. I started listening when I was pregnant and love how calm and no nonsense Cath is. The advice is brilliant!

Some good things about the podcast but wouldn’t recommend as calling a cry it out sleep method ‘responsive/ passive settling’ is harmful and confusing to new parents.

Totally agree with the other comments about the hosts coming across as very condescending, judgmental and unsupportive. I also found the episode about what baby items are necessary a bit strange, given that hosts seemed to have absolutely no idea what items where called or anything about them....Read full review »

I don’t think I’ve actually ever heard women being this patronising about and towards other women before. According to Cath and Dr Sue women are anxious and worried all the time, make bad choices and their bodies ‘don’t quite know what they’re doing’. What a load of BS. I’ve never met the women...Read full review »

I feel like in a world of Instagram influencers, flippant parenting trends and pseudoscience, Cath tells it how it is. No nonsense, zero filter advice you would get from your Mum or Aunt in health care. This podcast has been a wealth of knowledge and a pleasure to listen to.
Georgia.T via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 09/11/20
So judgemental. There’s lots of different ways to do things and these ladies try to make you feel bad about not doing it their way. Go listen to Australian birth stories if you want different perspectives.

I was hoping that this was going to be a great resource for my soon due first baby, unfortunately I can’t get past the condescending tone of the podcast and shaming of mothers and their wishes.
KD1987 via Apple Podcasts · Australia · 06/17/20
Enjoyed it and was hoping for lots of helpful information. Unfortunately become disheartened by the heavy judgement and laughing at other mothers. Currently reading Midwife Cath’s book and enjoying it. However, let down by podcast.

Great information and easy to listen to and absorb. Watching my wife grow with our first the least I could do is fill my head with knowledge.

Some of the information is helpful, but there is some very ill-informed discussions and shaming of parents on this podcast! The tone is not supportive in many episodes and some of the advice is very archaic. Would NOT recommend this podcast for new or expecting parents :-(

I have unsubscribed. Brendan Chan was interesting but the female hosts constantly mock and shame parents and their views are not substantiated. They also talk over each other and guests. It grinds on the listener.

I was disappointed and actually appalled at the shaming of first time Mums on this series. I could not love this podcast more. Practical parenting advice delivered in an honest and often humerous manner that gives you the confidence to parent even when you feel like you are hopelessly unqualified. A must listen. Also Cath please can you adopt me?
