What do we actually know?
As a public school teacher, I am repeatedly told that some new technique is worthwhile because it’s consistent with how the brain works. Representatives of companies come at us with amygdala and hippocampus, prefrontal decision making and brain stem automaticity, serotonin and dopamine, EKGs and fMRI evidence. But mostly it’s hogwash. Their claims amount to saying that students will improve their time running the mile if they strengthen their quads and they have just the product. This show is a wonderfully rounded guide to brain science, appropriate for anyone who can pay attention. Dr. Campbell makes many different strands of brain science accessible, using technical vocabulary comprehensibly, which allows me to investigate fields that are relevant to me. This has helped me build immunity to the commercial phrenology that so often tries to pass itself off as indisputable. Thank you, Ginger!
