A major letdown—Glamour & HSW capitalized on Black tragedy
I’m not terribly surprised that some place like Glamour has done this, but I’m very let down that How Stuff Works’ name is on this piece of dreck that capitalized on the pain and suffering of 6 Black children and their birth families. This podcast adds very little that folks can’t find with cursory google searches and doesn’t spend NEARLY enough time discussing the issues of race and white saviorism that is clearly present not just in the Hart moms but all the white folk around them who saw signs and issues with the family but let it slide because these two ‘great’ white people were saving these six Black “crack babies” with “developmental problems”. How good (re: white) of them, so they were above reproach. Sure, they had a couple people who were VERY poised to speak at length on the issue on the podcast for little snippets, but all in all, this MAYBE made up one singular episode’s worth of content, when they could have and should have made multiple. This story is sensational, no doubt, and it could have and should have been handled so much better, but, instead, Glamour just let 2 white ladies more or less do a deep dive on Jen’s fb page and make a podcast about it while sending a 3rd white lady out to do the real legwork. Why the 2 “hosts” were even necessary is beyond me; they just add to the tone deaf infuriating nature of the podcast. Also, holy crap, so many ads.

True crime, but from a female perspective, and with domestic and relationship issues at the centre....Read full review »

I’m sure it’s very difficult to find more concrete evidence of what was really going on in that home. But the content of this podcast feels like it’s just a lot of gossip and speculation...
