The magical voodoo power of story
Just listened again to your episode with The Storytelling Animal author Jonathan Gottschall, and what a GEM. (Who knew that at pushing 40 he wound up becoming a cage fighter on his quest to “get fired from academia”? HAHAHA! Also I agree it’s hilarious the cage fighting gym was across the way from the English Department.) So many great nuggets in here—stories can smuggle information into our brain, from helpful info to … more nefarious. Sharing your story is incredibly vulnerable but when it hits, OH SO GOOD. And I love that concept of “narrative transportation” being like Never Land where we’re more open, and more open to change. Above all, “if you’re really serious (about telling better stories, don’t read the business books … go read the creative writers, the best storytellers” And: WRITE. THEM. DOWN!!!
