Shallow, padded-out coverage
On the positive side, the show covers some interesting topics. On the negative side, each episode is thin on content, and is padded it with fictional conversations which sometimes border on insipid. For example, in the second episode about Marvel Comics, there’s a scene in which a couple writers discuss naming a new character which goes something like, “How about Blob, Hunk, hmm.. what about Hulk?” We don’t know verbatim how this conversation actually played out at the time, but it’s a good bet it was nothing like the facile version presented here. Rather than draw this conversation from reliable historical sources, they decided just to make something up, and it ends up sounding like it was written by a third grader. My guess is they wanted to delve into this topic, but did not have enough sources to stretch it out over multiple episodes, so it is stuffed with fictional extra material. Business Wars is advertised as a management podcast, but it does not aim towards management level quality. Also on the negative side, the narrator’s overly folksy style is annoying. It’s a business podcast, not a Cracker Barrel commercial!

Business made suspenseful. Excellent writing - dramatic production. Accidentally sad. Love it.
