“The quality of podcast varies from week to week. They have excellent podcasts on occasion. For example, their pre-draft (Mac Jones analysis) coverage in 2021, for example, was really, really good.
Chris Biderman knows his stuff and he has interesting takes. I disagree with his analysis from time to time, which is fine. He’s not the most charismatic guy in the world, but he has a unique view of what is happening. I’d like to see him take more of an objective view of things and address alternative view points the same way that Maiocco and Barrows do. He’s not in their league yet, but he can get there.
Kyle Madson is funny, but he relies way too much on snark, and it undermines the show. His Garoppolo takes are preposterous. At times, he takes an oddly condescending view of Shanahan and Lynch. Again, it’s fine to criticize management and players, but, too often, he does so in a dismissive “I-know-more-than-you” manner. If he wants to be Grant Cohn/Skip Bayless-Lite, so be it. He can be better than that. I really hope he gets better at this because he has talent and I find him entertaining a good deal of the time.
It also does not help that these guys tend to agree on about 95% of everything. They don’t need to create artificial debate a la First Take, but hearing two guys rip on Garoppolo without acknowledging the benefits he brings to a team (although Biderman, to his credit, does so on occasion) gets old.
If you want objective and entertaining Niners insight, go to Maiocco, Haberman and Middlekauff, and Kawakami. I used to put this show up there, but this podcast’s 2021 season coverage was disappointing. I hope they figure this out because the talent is there.”
