Florian is a Principal at Boston Consulting Group in Munich, Germany. He's a core member of the Automotive, Industrial Goods, and Marketing & Sales practice areas. Prior to joining BCG, Florian was a Principal at Roland Berger in Munich, a member of the automotive management team and lead for sales and marketing for the EMEA region. His automotive career began with a twenty year tenure in various roles in strategy, planning and operations in BMW AG, Panama City, Beijing and Sao Paulo. Florian was brought up in South Africa and moved to Germany with his family as a teenager.  He holds a Masters degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from LMU in Munich as well as qualifications in business and he completed an Industrial Manager Apprenticeship at the start of his career. In our conversation we talk first about his early years in South Africa and the family's move to Germany before diving into his twenty years in industry.  During that time, he enjoyed many highlights, including the distinction of being the youngest Marketing Director at BMW Latin America, at the age of only 28.  He explains how that was a key inflection point for him. It brought his first department responsibility and made him a member of the regional office management team.  He had to learn to balance the expectations of the headquarters with those of the dealers and customers in a highly volatile and very interesting region. And finally, Florian shares how, in 2020, he made the move from industry to consulting, which fits very well with his desire to experience a wider overview.
