My new favorite music podcast
Such a great format - this is a music appreciation, not a music critique, podcast. It’s fun listening to two people who obviously love music talking about albums that they love, and also giving a shot to things they wouldn’t. My album recommendation is Fountains of Wayne’s self-titled debut. My first exposure to FoW was as the opener to Smashing Pumpkins in 1997, at the first rock show I ever attended (which, I guess, makes them the first rock band I ever saw live). I don’t think the rest of the crowd quite knew what to make of them, but even in my peppermint schnapps 101 (relax, we were know-nothing high school kids who took what we could get) induced haze, I was taken. Maybe it was the fact that this was the first live music I’d seen, maybe it was the perfect pop hooks, maybe it was the schnapps, but I immediately went out and bought the album and love it to this day. Sure, everyone of a certain age knows and got tired of Stacy’s Mom and those in the know weren’t surprised to discover Adam Schlesinger was the genius behind That Thing You Do, but I really wish everyone knew Fountains of Wayne from this album, which I really think is as perfect a pop rock album to have come out of the 90s.

A wonderful album by the singer of the Wonder Years. The whole album is one story about a man and heart break

Love the way you guys break down these albums and what makes them so noteworthy to you personally. Would love to hear you guys talk about Home, Like Noplace is There by the Hotelier. Gamechanging new age emo album imo.
