Description
Our guest for episode 56 is Jorge Ochoa from San Antonio, Texas. Jorge is an Occupational Therapist and founder of TamboRhythms that promotes health and wellness and the development of social-emotional skills. Jorge started playing drumset when he was young. He became an occupational therapist in 2001 and has worked in school settings, teaching special educations for children. In 2007 he came across the world of hand drumming and decided to incorporate this into his teaching through their school program called The Rhythmic Arts Project, geared towards children with special needs. In 2008, he then found a research-based program called Health Rhythms Group Empowerment Drumming. Studies suggest that this helps boost the immune system, improve mood and decrease stress. After having completed the training to become a facilitator, he then founded his business TamboRhythms to help people of all ages deal with their mental health issues through community drum circles.
