“Hello, my name is Melisa. I am 29 and as the second decade of my life is about to pass me, I feel the pressures of not being where I thought I would be by now. My twenties consisted of bouncing around aimlessly in different majors to then fail out of uni. I was working temp jobs until I got a pretty decent full time position in the cultural services department in local government at the beginning of this year. Finally it seemed like I was in the right direction and had something to show for the past ten years that I could be proud of. With Covid, my position has been temporarily put in pause and I was redeployed to picking garbage in our city’s parks. Although I am thankful that I still have a job and that my wages have remained the same, picking garbage since April has taught me a lesson in humility and patience. Being a garbage woman in has never been part of my plan and I sometimes am hard on myself for not having accomplished more. I’m specially miserable now as I can feel the Canadian winter approaching and am terrified of the shittyness that it will be working outside until I have my job back. Listening to your podcasts while I am doing my garbage rounds makes me feel like I’m being productive by learning and finding inspiration in you and your amazing guests. I am taking these “unprecedented times” to transfer the loose end credits that I have from uni to a BBA and taking the rest of the courses online after work. Anyway, all I really wanted to do here is tell you a little about myself and how your work positively impacts me! Thank you for all you do!!”
