Mailbag: NIL for basketball-only schools?
Love the show! And loved your BB coaches poll discussion of NIL. But do your NIL issues really apply to basketball-only schools? I can see where football schools would have to commit tens of millions $ to dozens of recruits year after year, for on-field results that will be several years away. So their basketball programs get included in huge NIL collectives with cloudy motives and dubious funding. But in basketball it’s smaller dollars with more direct results. Take Creighton, you say that the top three players (Kalkbrenner, Trey, Baylor) probably got $150k to $200k each to come back. That’s $500k total for one year, with direct results on the court this season. As a middle-income alum I’d kick in $1k or $2k, and there might be 500 fans at my level. There are certainly larger donors for $10k or $20k or maybe $50k that make $500k fairly easy to attain without a huge shadowy NIL collective. Does that make sense? @danquinlin

The host talks way too much and does not let the guests talk. The show was much better last year. Bad move by CBS. I have not listened to one full podcast this year because of the host.

The podcast took a major turn for the worse with the change from Matt Norlander to Gary Parrish as host. With Parrish as host, the podcast gets bogged down on a very narrow list of topics, primarily arguing with people who said dumb things to him on Twitter. I would bet that more than half of...Read full review »
