“I enjoyed hearing Joey, of whom I’ve been a fan since the first Bros. Landreth album, talk about his admiration for Lowell George. I’ve played a few Little Feat songs in bands over the years starting with Willin’ in the early 70s. One small correction: Joey seemed to saying it was difficult to play Dixie Chicken in open C even though it’s structurally the same as open A. Obviously, the position makes a difference. The signature lick is played around the 12th fret as I recall. However, open C, played two whole steps down from open E, is 1 5 1 3 5 1, while open A is 5 1 5 1 3 5. Both have a major chord on the top three strings but they’re in the perfect order in open A (or G) that fits Little Feat songs so well.”
