Ep. 76 - Protests and Cons
Listen now
Description
Years from now, I wonder how people will misremember these campus protests. They'll tell themselves they were on the right side of history, even has they tut-tutted the students for their actions. "Well, that's not the the way that I would go about changing things." I think we like the drape our world in nuance so we can pretend that we didn't know better, or the answer wasn't clear. But it's crystal. The world is complicated, yes. This is not. There were campus protests of Vietnam back in 1968. Steve Schafer was at the original Columbia University occupation. I've known Steve most my life. He worked with my father as a public defender. He also served in Vietnam. We talked about whether history repeats itself or just echoes at his farm out in the country.
