Born and bred Houstonian, growing up in the Heights and 1st generation Mexican-American. My primo was at Moody Park that day, he lived on Robertson, just down the street. I remember the story of Joe Campos from my mom and the anger in her voice. My grandparents settled in 2nd ward when they came here from Mexico in the 50’s. This podcast brings those times to life. One thing I will say is, I am a Mexicana before anything else, that’s how I was raised. To be proud of my ethnicity and to refer to oneself as Chicano is to deny your family and history. I agree with Jaime Escalante, we didn’t cross that border, that border crossed us.
