“Being a longtime subscriber to Lily’s F1 newsletter, I was really excited to listen to this podcast and recommended it to all my friends. The later episodes have made me regret my recommendation, however. The team history parts were informative but a lot of more current events are extremely misrepresented AND not funny. I would understand bending the narrative a little for the sake of entertainment but when Michael, in the role of someone who knows NOTHING about F1, throws wild speculation because it’s his role, the specialist should be allowed to correct him, you know.
The Alfa Romeo episode is the last straw for me. I had been under the impression that the podcast aimed for full disclosure with regards to teams, and positive angles with regards to drivers - a normal and valid tactic! But for some godforsaken reason, Lily decides to introduce Zhou Guanyu by simply repeating “we don’t know who this Chinese guy’s sponsors are,” ten times with meaningful pauses, as if to insinuate that this Chinese kid is not only unfit to drive, but also a Machiavellian CCP scheme to infiltrate F1. Maybe we shouldn’t be racing in countries with human rights issues but individual kids have nothing to do with it! And if you’re going to emphasize the UNSPOKEN AND ONLY ASSUMED POLITICS of one driver you better do that for all the other drivers. Why didn’t you? Could it be… racism?
By the way, pointing out other people’s racism doesn’t exempt your own. Just so incredibly disappointed.”
