“These are incredibly tough times. There’s a war raging in Europe. There’s a cost of living crisis with families struggling to pay their energy bills. There’s a huge government debt which will take decades to pay off. And there’s the possibility of a return to violence in Northern Ireland as a result of the Brexit mess. What Hope (or ‘Chopper’) does is trivialise politics. He presents in a very jokey flippant way which I find really grates. Maybe others might find him amusing. I don’t.”
