Absolutely fascinating. Exposes the weird cultural double speak of our times - our obsession with food and cooking coupled with our ignorance and the frequent invisibility of the exploitation and human cost of our ingredients. As this podcast shows, everything is political, including how our food...Read full review »

Just finished episode 10 and was sad to hear that that was the last one. So interesting and informative. I’ve now seen/heard Michael Twitty on this show and Padma’s show. I plan to read his book soon.

Great conversations about the larger forces driving the food industry. Fascinating and accessible. If I could wait to binge listen, I would, but I don’t have that kind of restraint.

When quarantine began, I began diving into food, cooking and Top Chef. Soon, I took an interest in the restaurant economy and food socioeconomics. This is the perfect blend.

As an avid gardener and a leftist it’s great to see professional chefs taking the problem of overarching white supremacy in our country starting food insecurity! Thanks Tom!

“During Covid our restaurant community has been struggling; especially black owned restaurants. That’s why Discover....” Please explain how the race of the restaurant owner determines how a pandemic affects it?

I had never considered the intricacies of our food chain. It is invaluable to have these explained and to understand how they might work better; at the very least, understand who is being effected and how.

It would be nice to hear how farmers feel about government subsidies. There was a comment regarding growing produce at a decent price for consumers in episode 1. As an apple grower in Washington state where minimum wage is approaching $20 soon, the cost of production is growing exponentially. ...Read full review »

I hope this podcast inspires people to think critically and imaginatively and stand up for action! Our foodways have been mired in a muck of waste, cruelty, inequality, corporate greed and political hijinks for generations! It’s tragic that so many believe our production and distribution systems...Read full review »

I agree with many things that were said but you can not say that the system did not work and Covid pointed it out. Never before have we been forced home unable to work, business shuttered. People lost their jobs and then health Insurance due to a government imposed quarantine. They are discussing...Read full review »

A million more reasons to love Tom. He isn’t merely pontificating on how to feed all people, he’s actually in the trenches doing it. And he knows food isn’t, and should never be, a political issue but a human right. Yay for Tom because he’s making the world a better place through his actions.

Thoughtful, interesting and really unexpected in all the good ways. Makes me think about how food is connected to everything in new ways. I would expect nothing less from Tom.

I love Tom and how he vocalizes his beliefs. One day I hope to meet him. Maybe even eat from his kitchen. This will have to do for now. 🙂

I was ready for something different in my feed, and this is a much-needed addition to the discussion around covid-19 and the greater injustices the pandemic has revealed. Have always enjoyed Tom’s take on things. Looking forward to the ongoing conversations.

It’s so nice to hear a chef talking about something other than just their latest recipe. Food is always political. And chefs should have a voice in the political sphere.its great to hear someone as smart and experienced as Tom talk about important stuff. Great Job chef!

A great investigation into our food supply and system stresses. Can’t wait to see where Tom take the discussion and who he brings to the table. Thank you for creating a forum for this discussion!

If you enjoy eating the foods you love you have got to listen to this podcast, the insight on how that food gets to your plate is unbelievable. Tom teaches you so much in each episode, it’s very eye opening and, at times, jaw dropping! A must listen!

I enjoyed the first episode! It feels like a collage of information in the best kinda way.
