Thought provoking
As an employee in the oil sands industry in Alberta, Canada, I struggle to find meaningful and engaging conversations for our industry and energy future. Many individuals working in my industry understand and accept there is a climate problem but are lost in what they can do to make a true difference. For example, “why should we do anything if China and India are doing nothing” is a common response. Many choose to ignore the issue and collect a paycheque for as long as they can. I am conflicted because I have been born and raised in an oil-rich city and have deep climate change concerns. Where I strive to make a difference is engaging in fact-based climate conversations in my workplace, cycle to work, buy local, and make energy efficient choices for my home. I find a lot of inspiration listening to Climate One podcasts and listen while I ride my bike to work each day. Thank you!
