“Finding this podcast has been a revelation. As someone who grew up in a military family with childhood spent in the vicinity of various Royal Naval and RAF air stations, I experienced air raid sirens in the small hours during TACEVALS and the excitement of fast jets constantly overhead. Looking back it was a bizarre upbringing where everyone’s dad at school was a cog in the machine of nuclear war and how calmly I took the advice from my dad at the age of 6 that we were in the best place in the event of a nuclear war (a nuclear strike bomber base in East Anglia): “We’re a 1st strike target, son. You’ll be vaporised instantly and won’t know a thing about it!”.
This series is a vital historical record of the exploits of the Cold War warriors and offers a huge amount of detail of long forgotten aspects of such a pivotal time in modern history.”
