“Please remember that oil and gas has grown exponentially further than what is described in this podcast. I have spent my career working in oil and gas. I currently work in high concentration H2S gas in a field not too far from Ludwig territory. The safety laws and environmental laws that oil and gas companies have to now follow mean that both people and the environment are top priority. We continue to push innovation through stricter environmental laws. Even today with the fugitive emissions law coming into effect in the near future companies are updating old equipment for new emission free controls. This is huge and means our already world leading facilities will be more efficient and pollute incredibly less. The problem is that we’re taking leaps and bounds forward while the rest of the world continues to use cheap but environmentally costly equipment and exponentially pollute our earth. If we held countries like Saudi Arabia, Russia and the US to the same standards we as Western Canadians have set in our oil and gas industry, we could really make an immense difference in changing our planet’s environment for the better. If you’d like to see an example of environmental innovation in the oil and gas sector look up what the company Modern Resources has done with their near zero carbon gas and oil wells. The CEO has a good video on YouTube explaining how their wells operate. Even today companies are creating a method to use sour produced water as frac water in an effort to preserve fresh water. The environmental movement is happening in this industry and I’m proud I get to be a part of it.”
