Wonderful yarns
Copy Southbound is a great podcast if you have any sort of interest whatsoever in trucks, transport or people. Before you start listening for the first time you look at the length of the show and wonder how you could be still interested even by halfway. But each and every time it is all too soon before Bruce is asking “any regrets?” and “would you do it again”. And you are looking around for the keys of the truck you don’t own and can’t drive either (well maybe that is just me) so you could go on a run with them to continue the fun. Each of the guests have their own story to tell from a different time, the long format gives you a good amount of time to get a sense of them. Most are retired or nearly so, the world has changed so much in their lifetime and these podcasts serve as an oral history of ordinary people doing extraordinary things and living a lifestyle that is virtually unthinkable today, but without which this country would not have developed as it has. After you’ve listened to a few episodes there are some recurring themes amongst the guests: “…..what a wonderful person x was” “…….oh that was a good truck” “……..we were having so much fun the money was just a bonus” As a listener you will think the same. Keep on truckin Bruce and Brendan.

I absolutely love listening to these stories, and the casual way they are told, THIS is how we need to hear our history being remembered by those who led the way, with humour and candour. Thank you Bruce and Brendan, for having the foresight and making the time to get these icons of our history...Read full review »
