071520 This is Coronavirus 411, the latest COVID-19 info and new hotspots… Just the facts… for Wednesday July 15th, 2020. The Director of the CDC said he believes “the fall and the winter of 2020 and 2021 are going to be the probably one of the most difficult times that we experienced in American public health”. He also said he feels like the virus could be “under control” within two months if everyone wore a mask. The New York Times reports that the Trump Administration has directed hospitals to bypass the CDC and send all coronavirus patient information to the Health and Human Services database in Washington. The move concerns public health officials, who fear the data may be “distorted for political gain”. The land border between Mexico and The U.S. will remain closed to non-essential travel through August 21st. The U.S./Canada border is expected to remain closed as well. The Mayor of Philadelphia will not allow large public events until the end of February 2021. Moderna will move to Phase III clinical trials with their vaccine candidate on July 27th, working with 30,000 people. Results from Phase III are expected in October. Caracas, Venezuela resumed full lockdown as of this morning. In Colombia, Bogota and Medellin will also resume city wide lockdowns. Tehran, Iran has reentered lockdown for at least a week. Tokyo, Japan returned to the highest threat level warning for Coronavirus, after new cases were over 300 for the past few days. Russia will lift a mandatory 2-week quarantine for arriving visitors, but they must take a COVID-19 test either 3 days prior to or after their arrival. Queen Elizabeth will Knight the 100-year-old war veteran who raised 40 million pounds for the National Health Service earlier this year. Globally: Australia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Zimbabwe, Lesotho. There have been 3,431,744 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States and 136,468 deaths. There were 65,644 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
